5 min readThe episode opens with a striking claim: “The reason not to become a Roman Catholic is the gospel.” That line, from Reformed Baptist apologist James White, is the target of Jimmy Akin’s analysis across four short clips. Akin argues that White’s critique of Catholicism is less about the actual gospel and more about imposing a Calvinist framework that most Christians—including most Protestants—do not share. In Calvinism, God determines every event, including who is saved, and Christ’s death effectively saves only the elect. If salvation requires ongoing participation—like the Mass—White infers that Christ’s work was insufficient.
