How God Lifts Me Up When I’m Worn Down—Part Two

In this continuation of Psalm 23, Rick Warren makes a direct claim: the battle you are fighting right now is not a surprise to God, and before it even started, God had already prepared the victory celebration. The central image is a banquet spread on a battlefield — a feast prepared "in the presence of my enemies" — and Warren's argument is that most believers are starving in the middle of a meal.

The Banquet Was Prepared Before the Battle Began

Warren draws from Psalm 31:19: "Your goodness is so great. You have stored up great blessings for those who honor you." He emphasizes the phrase "stored up" — it indicates advanced planning. God does not improvise blessings in response to your crisis. He already knows how it will end, and he has already prepared the celebration.

This reframes how you understand your current difficulty. Whatever the battle — financial, relational, physical, moral — Warren says God has a banquet tent pitched just a few hundred yards away. "You've got to walk over there, sit down and have some fellowship with God and eat your favorite food." The problem is not that God is withholding comfort. The problem is that you are not walking into the tent.
