Second fatal ICE shooting in a week under investigation

An investigation is underway into the second fatal shooting by ICE agents in a week. The Department of Homeland Security says agents in Maine yesterday were watching the address of an immigrant to be deported when someone attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle. He was shot and killed. A spokesperson for Senator Angus King’s office said the victim was “not the target of the warrant,” and that information came directly from DHS Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen in an email. An ICE spokesperson later said the shooting happened after a driver left a house they were surveilling, but did not definitively say if the driver was who they were looking for. Maine’s Attorney General says his office is investigating, and DHS’s Inspector General is also looking into the incident in cooperation with the FBI. The shooting follows last week’s killing of a man during an ICE traffic stop in Houston.
