Sparked late Friday night, it was human-caused, and dry, hot, and windy conditions fueled rapid growth and huge flames. The fire now threatens Eureka, a historic mining town about an hour and a half south of Salt Lake City, where around 700 people live. Fire officials are working to evacuate them. The Iron Fire is just one of several burning in Utah, including one in the foothills east of Salt Lake City. After months of drought, fire risk is extremely high across the state.
