Trap Lore Ross, who has documented Chicago drill for nearly a decade, was inside the courtroom every day. He watched the prosecution build a case around GPS tracking, flight records, and FaceTime calls—and still saw the jury return a not guilty verdict on all five charges. The Mechanics of the First Trial

The prosecution’s case centered on the murder of Quando Rondo’s associate, Lul Pab, in Beverly Hills. The evidence was detailed and physical. Ross notes that the most damning piece was a GPS tracker in the car of Vonnie, one of Durk’s associates. The GPS showed Vonnie driving from Durk’s house to the hotel where the hitmen were staying, then later to the location of the shooting. After the murder, Vonnie parked the car, took an Uber—charged to Durk’s American Express—back to Durk’s house. The prosecution also presented text messages from Durk saying “don’t book no flights in my name,” which they argued was an implicit admission of guilt.
