The Country Singer Who Refuses to Stay in His Lane

Bryan Andrews grew up in Carrollton, Missouri—a town with one stoplight—where his parents were music teachers and his grandfather drove a forklift for General Motors. He started writing songs in hotel rooms while working as a pipe welder on the road, building ethanol plants and gas terminals. His debut single "Liquor and Pills" went viral, and he built a following on TikTok. Then he started talking about politics, and everything changed.

The Decision to Stop Staying Quiet

Andrews says he originally planned to keep his left-leaning politics to himself. He knew what people who listen to country music think about people on the left, especially since Trump entered politics. But during the 2020 election, when he started seeing ICE enforcement stories, he decided to speak up. His father gave him a framework for the decision: "Would you rather people leave you because your music sucks, or because you said something they weren't ready to hear yet?"

He chose the latter deliberately. "I want you to know exactly who I am before you put money in my pocket," he says. He didn't want to build a fanbase and then reveal his beliefs later, because "if you do that after you win a Grammy, you're gonna look insane—like he's part of the sex cabal, he's at the Diddy parties."
