In the summer of 2003, a strange, human-like creature was sighted in rural New York state and parts of Ohio. Witnesses reported emotions ranging from extreme terror to a childlike curiosity. Then, almost all written and online accounts of the creature were mysteriously destroyed. A small group of self-proclaimed witnesses began searching for answers, and by 2006 they had collected nearly two dozen documents from four continents, dating from the 12th century to the present day. The stories were nearly identical. One witness, whose daughter was killed during an encounter, recorded the creature’s voice on a digital recorder left running beside her bed at night. She has not let anyone else listen to it.
