Silence in the Rain by The Doctor

A man named Mark sprints through a rain-soaked alley in New York, fleeing a figure he cannot escape. The creature appears at every turn, standing about eight feet tall in a torn, rust-stained formal suit, and seems to know where he will go before he does. When Mark stares at it, he feels sick, and his worst memories—an embarrassing date, a lost pet, his sister's funeral—surface unbidden. The thing does not move when watched, but looking at it too long causes something to claw its way out of him. This is the central mechanism of the horror: the creature weaponizes memory and forces its prey to relive pain.

The chase and the creature's nature

Mark's flight takes him through a flash flood. The rain is so heavy that the streets overflow, and he finds himself swept downhill by the current. He spots the creature at the bottom of a hill, already waiting. He grabs a lamppost, then lets go and falls into an open sewer grate. After four seconds of free fall, he hits the ground and breaks his leg. Crawling, he tries to drag himself into a drainage canal to drown—preferring that to whatever the being has in store. But a tendril grabs his ankle and lifts him out of the water, flipping him right side up. Face to face with the creature, he vomits from the sickness it radiates. Then two claw-like fingers position themselves on his eyes. He knows what is coming.
