The Hungry Dead and the Things That Wait

A homeless man named Noah, living on the streets for seven years after losing his job, his parents in a house fire, and his girlfriend, is approached in a park by a man in spotless white clothes who offers him a free meal. Despite his hunger, Noah's instincts scream that something is wrong. He follows the man to a soup kitchen run by "The Prince's Church," where the food is impossibly good, the workers never stop smiling, and the homeless guests eat with an eerie, mechanical devotion. When a "prince" appears—wearing a silver lamb mask and a crown made of severed human hands—he commands everyone to kneel. Those who refuse are torn apart by the brainwashed crowd. Noah's friend Colton, a one-armed veteran, sacrifices himself to help Noah escape, stabbing a guard and being killed in the process. The prince watches Noah flee, and Noah lives in terror that he will be found again.
