Welcome to the Horizon 2.8: The Galaxy Brain

The Galaxy Brain is a planet-sized space station built inside a chunk of black glass, the biggest criminal hub in the Triad. It is run by Leif, a former ally of the crew of the Midnight Burger who has become the most powerful crime lord in three galaxies. In this episode, two characters—Bird and Deedra—infiltrate the station by hitching a ride on an automated ice hauler, a ship the size of the Chrysler Building. Bird used to steal these haulers as one of their first crimes in the Triad, and the old trick still works: the ice haulers are slow, invisible, and if you steal under a certain threshold, the authorities won't bother investigating.

The Infiltration and the Old Hideout

Bird and Deedra disguise themselves. Deedra wears a "sham suit" that turns her skin pink, making her look like an alien, and carries a knife made from Fermica III, a mineral that can stop electrons and jam any electronic device—a "bot slayer." Bird attaches a communication dot behind Deedra's ear. Their plan is to move through the station separately. Bird finds an old hiding spot above the armory, a nook they used to escape to during complicated projects. Inside, they discover that Leif still keeps the place intact: a sleeping bed, a rocket juicer, a stack of micro servers. It is collecting dust, but Leif never broke it down.
