Larry Barnhill was a track star, a University of Florida graduate, and an arena manager who coordinated the 1990 NBA All-Star Weekend and worked alongside celebrities from Frank Sinatra to LL Cool J. Then corporate restructuring pushed him out of a job he'd helped build from the ground up. "That's where my mindset changed," he says. "Now I'm in survival mode." That shift led to a decade as part of the "Morning Glory Gang," one of Atlanta's most organized bank robbery crews, followed by 22 years in federal prison.
The Corporate Career That Collapsed
Barnhill grew up middle class in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of a successful car detailing businessman and a lab chemist. He went to the University of Florida on a track scholarship, initially studying architecture before switching to sports administration. After graduation, he worked in the athletic department, then became event manager at the newly built Miami Arena, managing concerts, ice capades, and the circus.
His career took him to New Orleans, Memphis, and finally Atlanta, where he helped open facilities for Leisure Management. He was part of the C-suite team that pitched cities for management contracts. "I was the man," he says. "Lights, cameras, action."

Show Notes
Larry Barnhill went from track star, college graduate, and event promotion executive working around famous athletes and celebrities to becoming part of Atlanta's Morning Glory Boys — a highly organized crew that carried out bank robberies for nearly a decade. After being pushed out of his corporate career, Larry started selling drugs to fund a new business before being pulled deeper into the criminal world, where millions of dollars were at stake and bank heists became a way of life. Eventually, it all came crashing down. Larry was sentenced to 26 years — 312 months — in federal prison and served more than 22 years behind bars.
