Newly released body camera footage shows a 37-year-old Florida English teacher, Heather Mashburn Smith, calmly walking deputies through her classroom at Port Charlotte High School, pointing to specific desks and chairs where she allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old student. When asked, "Can you just show us where in the room the sexual activity took place?" she responded with precise detail, gesturing toward furniture and explaining, "I think everything shifted a little bit. Everything slides a lot during the day because the kids don't put their chairs out." How the Allegations Came to Light

The investigation began when a message came through a parent communication app used by school district staff. Someone reported that Mashburn Smith was having sex with a student. Deputies arrived at the school and spoke with the alleged victim, who told them the relationship had turned sexual after he was added to a group chat. According to court records, the student said he told Mashburn Smith he thought she was pretty. She allegedly responded by asking him to come to her classroom to talk about the messages.
