Gerardo Nunez is 38 years old, has lived on the same street in Coacalco for 15 years, and has never been afraid of the dark. He works the afternoon shift at a grocery warehouse and usually gets home between ten and eleven at night. He is used to being out at night. He got up, put on slip-on sneakers, grabbed only his house keys, and walked the half-block to his car. The trunk opened fine. He grabbed the backpack, closed the trunk, and turned around to go home.
That was when he saw the woman.
