A man drove at night on a road he did not know. He was in a hurry, constantly checking his watch because he felt he was going to arrive late, so he accelerated. He passed one town, then another, took a clearer road he spotted, and pushed the gas even harder. After nearly an hour, he stopped at a gas station to ask for directions because he sensed he might not be on the right route. The attendant looked surprised and told him, “Sir, I don’t know why you are going in the wrong direction. This is the opposite of where you want to go.” The man understood something painful: he had advanced a great deal, but toward the wrong place. He had covered many kilometers, spent fuel, invested time, exerted effort, and driven fast—but none of it mattered because he had lost the direction.
