Skuespiller Roland Møller: Jeg er branchens sorte får

The parallel society and the psychology of belonging

Møller describes how he ended up running a protection racket in Odense as a teenager. He was bullied at school for being into hip-hop and breakdancing when those were fringe interests in 1980s Denmark. His father, himself from an old-school background, gave him brutal but effective advice: "There are no bigger people than they can lie down. If there are people who are after you, hit them right on the tip of the hand." When Møller followed that advice on the school tyrant, he became the go-to fixer for other kids. "I felt that I had a meaning when people came and asked me a lot of things," he says.
