Uffe Holm, a 31-year veteran of Danish stand-up, began his career at 17 after seeing Kasper Christensen perform. He got his big break by cold-calling a student council leader to secure a warm-up slot at Christensen’s show. That night, Christensen presented him as Denmark’s youngest stand-up comedian, and Holm got a standing ovation. He was hooked. The mechanics of delivering a risky joke

Holm draws a sharp line between provoking and being funny. “I hate to provoke,” he says. “I'm not here to provoke. I'm here to make people laugh.” The difference, he explains, lies in delivery and framing. He tells a joke he wrote 12 years ago: “I'm sitting and fishing for a day in Congo. And then I'm in the middle of it all, then I'm out on the radio, then I play the yellow hand to Africa.” The setup is deliberately extreme — it puts a violent image in your head. The payoff is the absurd contrast: “Give a hand to Africa,” a cheesy 1980s charity song.
