James Price spent 23 seasons as chapelmaster at Circusrevyen on Dyrehavsbakken, playing well over 2,500 performances. But when the host asks whether he ever gave notes to performers like Lisbeth Dahl or Ulf Pilgaard about how to deliver a number better, his answer is immediate: never. "I would say, damn, that was good this evening. Okay, you did it. No, that was funny. But I would never go in and say, try to hear, I actually think you should do this and that. And I also think I would not be able to see a dark look."

That diplomatic boundary defines the role of a revue chapelmaster — someone who leads the orchestra, not the stage. Price describes a clear hierarchy: the revue actors are the stars, and the chapelmaster's job is to follow, not direct. The only exceptions are technical limits. If a pause is too short or the ensemble drifts off tempo, he will say something. But the actors can simply refuse, and "then you just have to say, 'Well, fine.' Then you just have to keep going."
