Influencer Mathias Bach

Mathias Bach, a 24-year-old social media influencer with a quarter-million followers, sat down with Danish People's Party chairman Morten Messerschmidt for a conversation that was never going to be comfortable. Bach grew up in Næstved, knew he was homosexual by age six or seven, and described his childhood as a constant mismatch: "I've never been a boy out fighting." He channeled his energy into the piano. When Messerschmidt, in an attempt to understand Bach's relationship dynamic, asked if Bach was "the woman in the relationship," Bach pushed back firmly: "I'm homosexual because I like men. That's how far I'm at." That exchange set the tone for a raw, personal, and politically charged conversation about identity, community, and what it means to be free.

Growing Up Feminine in a Small Town

Bach described a childhood defined by being visibly different. He was feminine from a young age, and the other children noticed. "I was just feminine. It was pretty clear to people that I wasn't a boy," he said. In a small town like Næstved, where you grow up with the same faces year after year, there was no escape from the label. He remembers thinking, "Why me? Why am I the one who should be homosexual? Why not someone else?" He felt singled out by fate, or by God, and knew the coming years would be difficult.
