On this episode of Happy & Healthy, host Jeanine Amapola Ward speaks directly to the Christian woman who feels she must project a perfect life while struggling in secret. The central argument is that the pressure to appear spiritually put-together actually undermines genuine faith, and that the alternative — what she calls "abiding" — means doing less, not more.
The Performance Trap
Ward identifies a pattern she sees frequently: Christians who feel they cannot admit difficulty because "aren't we supposed to have everything together?" Social media intensifies this, encouraging users to curate a life where everything looks effortless — the 5 a.m. wake-up, the matcha, the Pilates, the spotless home. But this performative Christianity, Ward argues, turns faith into a checklist.
"If we're only looking to just worship God when we get the thing and it's pretty and we got the prayers that we wanted," she says, "how do we expect to worship God when it isn't pretty?"

Show Notes
Girl, this episode is for you if you've been secretly struggling but feel like you have to pretend everything is okay because you're a Christian. 🤍
I want to remind you that you can love Jesus with your whole heart and still have hard days. You can feel lonely, spiritually dry, overwhelmed, or even question your faith, and that doesn't mean you're failing as a Christian.
In today's episode, we're getting REAL about the pressure to have it all together, comparison, feeling behind in life, struggling to find genuine friendships, and turning our relationship with God into another checklist. I'm sharing some of my own struggles and what I've learned about surrendering control, being vulnerable, trusting God's timing, and choosing to abide in Jesus instead of constantly striving for perfection.
My prayer is that this episode reminds you that you are not alone, you don't have to earn God's love, and you don't have to wait until your life looks perfect to come to Him. God wants your heart, not your performance.
Love you guys!
