Asking a Pastor Controversial Questions You’re Afraid To Ask

In his viral sermon clip, Pastor Luke Lazon didn't shy away from the moment when Shia LaBeouf, asked what he would do if Jesus walked into the room, broke down weeping and said he would kiss his feet. Lazon used the clip to illustrate a passage about a woman with a scandalous past cleaning Jesus' feet with her tears. The point, he explained, was that "we're all being sanctified, but he's struggling how he's struggling." That moment became the entry point for a conversation about the small issues that keep people from church—and the bigger picture they often miss.

Alcohol, Liberty, and the Meat Market Parallel

When asked whether Christians and pastors can drink, Lazon was direct: responsible drinking is permitted by Scripture, and the line is getting drunk. He pushed back against the common claim that biblical wine was watered down, recounting a trip to Israel where a guide grew frustrated with a Baptist pastor making that argument. "Wine's always been wine," the guide said, adding that if alcohol is present at all, the argument about how much becomes a moving goalpost. Lazon connected the modern drinking debate to Paul's discussion in Romans 14 about meat sacrificed to idols. The principle is about Christian liberty governed by love: you may have freedom, but you exercise discretion for the sake of others. He and his wife have a glass of wine at home but are more careful

Show Notes

Okay you guys, this episode is a GOOD one. Kaleb and I are sitting down with Pastor Luke Lezon and putting him in the hot seat with some of the questions Christians are actually asking—but sometimes feel afraid to say out loud. We talk about everything from Christians drinking alcohol, pastors drinking, and expensive church buildings, merch, politics, predestination vs. free will, women pastors, and what it looks like to actually stand on biblical truth without becoming overly critical of everyone around you.

We loved this conversation because it reminded us that we don't have to be scared of hard questions. We can wrestle with Scripture, have disagreements, use wisdom and discernment, and still keep Jesus at the center. My hope is that this episode encourages you to dig into the Word for yourself, extend more grace to other believers, and focus less on winning arguments and more on genuinely following Jesus.
