Why Did The Prototype Save Us? (Poppy Playtime)

The prototype's decision to save the player at the end of Chapter 5—stabbing them, then dumping them into a vat of regenerative poppy gel—has been one of the most confusing moments in the game. After months of analysis, the answer ties together three separate mysteries: who made the toy Lily Love Braids, what happened to the orphans, and why the prototype is now desperate enough to keep his enemy alive.

Who Actually Made Lily?

Lily Love Braids appears in Chapter 5 as a seemingly perfect bigger body toy, created by the prototype and his followers from the brain of Miss Gracie, a former Playtime Co. employee. But this raises a problem: the prototype is terrible at making living toys. His early experiments, documented in notes found in the study room, end in grotesque failure. One subject "bubbling throat gurgled as he drew his first breath" before dying on the sixth breath. His creation Preston is a mash of mismatched parts with horror in his eyes. Yet Lily is clean, functional, and indistinguishable from any other bigger body.
