In Deltarune Chapter 5, the flower shop dark world seems like a detour—a chapter about flowery boys and a goofy dad. But buried inside it is the clearest explanation yet for the game’s central mystery: what happened to December “Dess” Holiday, Noelle’s missing sister, and how that tragedy created the Knight. The chapter doesn’t advance the Prophecy much, but it gives us the backstory that makes the Prophecy matter.

What Asgore’s Research Reveals

Asgore is not just an oblivious flower shop owner. Inside the chapter’s dark world castle, scattered research papers turn out to be his old notes, now distorted because they crossed from the light world into darkness—the same way a pencil becomes a sword. Ralsei can interpret some of them, and they reveal that a dark world existed here long ago. Asgore’s obsession with proving dark worlds are real stems from guilt over “an incident” he refuses to describe. He blames himself for something, even though Chris, Asriel, and Toriel never blamed him. That guilt, he says, is what drove Toriel away.
