That is the promise from Isaiah 29:18, and in this episode of Follow Him Favorites, hosts Hank Smith and John Bytheway share a single story that makes that ancient prophecy feel immediate and personal. The story comes from Elder Ted E. Brewerton, told in 1991, about his own ancestors—the Stewart family in Ireland.

When Mormon missionaries arrived at the Stewart home, the third child, Elizabeth, felt an immediate conviction. She began studying the message of the Restoration, but her parents wanted nothing to do with it. Elizabeth’s grandmother lived with the family and had been virtually deaf for over twenty years. So Elizabeth spent hours telling her granny about Joseph Smith and the simple, direct message that Christ was speaking again to man—assuming, reasonably, that the old woman could not hear a word she said.
