AI Summary
5 min readOn the Blood Sun day of the final battle, Diem Bellator faces eighty mortal men sent by her biological father, Ofiakai. They are not soldiers—they are neighbors, old patients, a schoolmate, a friend of her brother Teller. Ofiakai has taken over their minds, turning them into empty shells. Diem disarms them one by one, then unsheathes Sorrow’s Edge and begins cutting them down, starting with Vance, the man who has tormented her for books. She looks each man in the face as she kills him. “Killing should never be easy, even in war,” she reflects. “Especially in war.” This is the opening of chapters 70 through 79 of Burn of the Everflame, the fourth and final book in the Kindred’s Curse Saga, and the emotional weight lands immediately.
