A man in southeastern Poland, sometime in the 1970s, was picking wild strawberries as a boy when something grabbed his foot from a hole in the ground. He turned around expecting a friend playing a prank. Instead, he saw a creature with pale, dirty skin, a human-like torso, and a face so long it looked like a horse's. Its eyes were human but full of rage, and its mouth was filled with large teeth. It was trying to pull him into the hole. He kicked it in the head, pulled his foot out of his shoe—the creature kept the shoe—and ran barefoot until a neighbor grabbed him, noticing the bloody footprints he was leaving on the pavement.

When they threw rocks at him, he slowly turned, dropped onto all fours, and became something wolf-like. The boys ran. The next morning, they found the baseball but no tracks.
