What an AI agent actually is
An AI agent is an autonomous system that can plan, execute, and self-correct across different tools and systems. The simplest way to think about it: an agent is like sitting a human down in front of a computer that has access to everything. It can draft, route, research, navigate apps, and compile multi-step tasks across different systems. It does not follow a predetermined if-else workflow. It makes its own decisions, changes course when something is not working, and can even delegate work to other sub-agents. If it cannot take action, adapt to context, or solve new problems independently, it is technically not an agent.
