GPT-5.6 arrives with a new naming scheme and limited access

OpenAI’s newest model family, GPT-5.6, comes with a three-tier naming structure that mirrors what Anthropic introduced earlier this year. The flagship model is called Sol (the sun), described as OpenAI’s most powerful model. Terra (the earth) is a more balanced version for everyday use. Luna (the moon) is a faster, lower-cost option. The company says Sol includes a max reasoning mode and an ultra mode that uses coordinated sub-agents for complex tasks in coding, biology, and cybersecurity.
