When Quinny arrives at his childhood home to break the news, his mother Penny is already waiting with a dead-eyed glare and a cutting remark: "I suppose you've heard the news. Yes, I always hear the news called from the big statue. Usually it's all about the affairs of state, and that's how we learn things."

The scene at Quinny's parents' house is the emotional core of the episode.
