A Demon Hunter, a Dangerous Antibiotic, and a Voice on the Baby Monitor

In the 2024 movie Primetime, Chris Hansen—the journalist famous for To Catch a Predator—is portrayed as a ratings-obsessed slimeball who doesn't actually care about protecting children. But 45 minutes in, the film takes a sharp turn. Hansen pulls up his sleeve to reveal a bracelet and tells a decoy about a trip to India in 1996, where he investigated child disappearances. The culprit wasn't a slaver or a wild animal. A little girl who survived described seeing a demon in a cave. Hansen tells his decoy: "We are cleansing the world of an ancient evil." The host of Dead Rabbit Radio, Jason Carpenter, spent time fact-checking this. He found no evidence Hansen ever investigated child murders in India, though Hansen did cover the child slave trade there. But the idea stuck with Carpenter: what if Chris Hansen actually believes he's fighting literal demons, not metaphorical ones?
