Jack Rhysider, host of Darknet Diaries, has spent eight years trying to make sense of a single story. The subject was a man named Zachariah, who told Jack a life story so extreme and unsettling that Jack found himself unable to process it during their calls. Over the course of a year, they spoke for dozens of hours. Jack was hooked, but also worried. Then, in the middle of their conversations, Zachariah went silent. He vanished completely. Jack waited weeks, then months, then years. He has not heard from Zachariah in eight years. The result of that long, obsessive effort is a new podcast called Low, which Jack is releasing first to his premium supporters before making it publicly available.

Jack describes Zachariah as "wild and untamed," a person so different from anyone he had ever met that the story felt almost impossible to process. Every phone call left Jack stunned. He kept calling back, not just because the story was compelling, but because he needed to verify the details. He had never interviewed anyone as extensively. The material was "dark and brutal," and Jack admits he could only work on it when he was in the right emotional state. The weight of the narrative made him flip back and forth between thinking he could never publish it and feeling an absolute need to do so.
