In the 324th Evolutionary Lens, Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying open with a striking observation about Ross Douthat's recent New York Times op-ed: Kamala Harris is consistently leading in 2028 Democratic primary polls, despite being "the face of the party's 2024 debacle." Douthat's piece, titled "Slouching Toward Kamala Harris," identifies three polling numbers that reveal the Democratic Party's condition: Trump's approval rating in the high thirties, a generic congressional ballot that promises decent midterm results but no sweeping mandate, and Harris leading the 2028 field. For Weinstein and Heying, this signals something deeper than name recognition or early polling quirks.

- 5 (28:53) **The "Double Down" Instinct and Harris's Incompetence** - Bret posits that Harris's continued popularity is driven by a psychological need for a "recount" among Democrats who can't process that they were wrong.
- 6 (37:02) **The 2028 Republican Field vs. The Democratic Slate** - The hosts compare the two parties' potential 2028 candidates, finding the Republican field far more interesting.

Show Notes
On this, our 324th Evolutionary Lens livestream, we discuss the 2028 presidential election, and bees, plants, and electrons. First: Kamala Harris is currently the front-runner for the Democratic nominee in 2028. Given her scant record of achievements, her capacity, and her campaign in 2024, how is this possible? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would be a better choice. On the Republican side, Vance is the front-runner, as expected, but there are far more other options than on the Democratic side (DeSantis, Kennedy, Gabbard, to name a few). Then: flowers are negatively charged, bees become positively charged while flying, such that when bees arrive at flowers, pollen leaps on to bees. We discuss sensory modalities, communication between pollinators and pollen distributors, and how environmental EMF might disrupt such systems.
