Morning Inspiration: Faith in People vs. Faith in God

Steve Harvey opens his morning segment with a candid confession about a mistake he made for years: putting his faith in people. Raised by a mother who was a Sunday school teacher, Harvey grew up around scripture, but even with that foundation, he found himself thinking like everyone else. "If I could just meet this person, or if I could just sit down with that person, or man, if I could just get this person to hear my idea." He admits he spent years believing that if he could get his music track or his idea into the right hands, or get in a room with the right person, everything would change. "Oh how wrong I was," he says.

The Lesson That Only Trouble Teaches

Harvey learned the hard way that people are unreliable when circumstances turn difficult. He offers a blunt piece of experiential wisdom: "If you want to learn about your friends, if you want to learn about your people, people around you, get yourself in some trouble. Get yourself in a situation. Oh man, you start looking around man the field get real clear when you in trouble. The field clears out when you're in doubt, when you don't know what to do, when you need help."
