It is the emotional anchor of this episode, which follows the crew of the Missouri River Runner as they navigate a series of escalating threats: a hostile encounter with a lone survivor, a frantic escape from a sinkhole full of infected, and a tense negotiation with a fortified river town that is slowly being drowned by a dam the infected are building themselves.

A Hostile Introduction and a Sinkhole Escape

The episode opens with the crew’s rail driver arriving in a small, rain-soaked town. They are immediately confronted by a man named Kent, who emerges from a building wielding a hatchet and blocking their path. The standoff is tense but brief. Kent, it turns out, is looking for someone. Before a real conversation can happen, the ground begins to rumble. A sinkhole collapses nearby, and from it pour infected — including one described as “an incredibly large man” with hands “the size of dinner plates.” The crew scrambles back into the rail driver, firing as they go. In the chaos, Ray loses his combat knife, Jenny damages her toolkit, and Kent is scratched by debris. They barely escape, slamming the door as the infected close in.
