Episode 11: Return to Osage | We're Alive: Frontier | Season 1

In a water treatment plant outside what was once Osage, now called Jefferson City, a stranger who just saved the expeditioners from a gas attack stares at a photograph. He asks about the people in it—a wife and child. The expeditioner, Kent, admits he can no longer see his son’s face. The stranger, an exiled man named Chato, offers a sacrament, a medicine that might let him pierce the veil and see them again. The group accepts, and the episode pivots on what they see: a shared vision that one person can tip the balance between a world of good and a world of bad, and that Chato himself is that person.

The vision and the plan

The sacrament hits each character differently. Jenny sees a plan unfold: Chato standing on a hill overlooking Jefferson City, the slaves free, the leader Kemon dead, and the city transformed from grief to hope. She feels a realization that “one person can make all the difference between a world of bad and a world of good, and all it takes is one person to make the right choice.” Rafe sees a memory—a plane descending toward a burning city, his brother beside him, a beast tearing flesh, and his brother saying, “I’m gonna get up. I’m gonna take care of this.” The vision is vivid and painful, but it confirms the same conviction: they are supposed to take down Kemon, and Chato is supposed to replace him.
