Exclusive!! Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett sat down with me to talk all things Verity

The cast of the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity—Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett—sat down with host Olivia Ponton to play a game and share behind-the-scenes stories. They started by collaboratively writing a short "manuscript" based on the book’s premise: the protagonist finds a hidden key, and each actor added a sentence, with Johnson’s character declaring, "But hell nah. I didn’t do that because I’m a baddie."

Scares, Snow, and Creepy Props

The conversation quickly turned to the filming experience. Hathaway recalled a moment on set where she genuinely frightened Hartnett. During a scene where Johnson’s character, Loan, is intimate with Jeremy (Hartnett) while Verity (Hathaway) supposedly lies comatose, the script required Verity to appear in a hallway. Hathaway had tucked herself into a dark alcove to hide from the camera, and as Hartnett rehearsed his approach, she simply emerged. "It wasn't like a boo or anything," Hathaway said. "It was like fangs out, terrifying zombie snake." Hartnett, genuinely startled, told her he hadn't been scared like that in a long time.
