When Jamie Foxx suffered a stroke in April 2023, less than 3% of people who come in with what he had walk out of the hospital. "We usually put them in a box," one nurse told him afterward. But his daughter Corinne—who had never been on the "bad side of the internet" before—found herself managing hospital security, conspiracy theories, and people trying to obtain medical records while her father was unconscious on a slab. "Without her, you wouldn't be here," the doctor told Jamie. Corinne's response: "When you're in it, you don't have time to be scared."

Two Upbringings, One Bond

Jamie grew up in Terrell, Texas, raised by his grandmother who made sure he learned classical piano. He describes his hometown with affection but clarity: "I love where I came from. I'm glad I'm gone." As a high school quarterback who passed for over a thousand yards, he experienced the contradictions of Southern traditionalism firsthand—"Monday through Thursday they call me certain names, but on Friday they called me a guy because I was a quarterback."
