The reason had almost nothing to do with game preservation policy and almost everything to do with a World of Warcraft guild drama, a streamer's bruised reputation, and the peculiar mechanics of internet hate.

The Campaign That Wouldn't Die

The Stop Killing Games movement began in 2023 after Ubisoft shut down The Crew, not just its online features but the entire game itself. YouTuber Ross Scott of Accursed Farms, a longtime advocate for digital consumer rights, launched a multi-pronged campaign to challenge what he saw as a fundamental injustice: consumers believed they were buying a product, while publishers argued they were selling a revocable license to a live service. The initiative aimed to force clarity on this distinction, ideally with legal teeth.
