So I Played Avowed.. It’s Better Than I Thought

Asmongold went into Avowed expecting it to be "literal garbage." He came out the other side saying it's a solid 7 out of 10 — and that he actually had fun. The streamer spent several hours playing Obsidian's newly released first-person RPG on its hardest difficulty, working through the opening sequence, character creation, early combat, and the first major story beats in the city of Paradise. His conclusion, delivered with some surprise: "It's not literal garbage. It's not."

Character Creation and First Impressions

The session opened with a lengthy and increasingly frustrated character creator. Asmongold cycled through the "godlike" facial features — grotesque, otherworldly mutations that mark the player character as touched by a god in the womb — and rejected them all. "This is some straight up fucking LSD EDM music rave like what is this bro?" he said, scrolling through options that included barnacle-like growths and glowing forehead marks. He turned off the godlike features entirely, opting for a clean-shaven, bald, white male character he nicknamed "the Battle Master" and later "the Bald Master."
