Pakistan’s Defense Minister Fails to Back Up a Major Claim on Live TV

The moment that defines the episode comes early: CNN’s interviewer asks Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for evidence that his country shot down five Indian fighter jets and a drone. His answer: “It’s all over social media.” When pressed again, he points to Indian social media and Indian media. The host, visibly frustrated, responds: “I’m asking you very specifically. Evidence for that, sir.” The minister has nothing else. As Asmongold puts it, Pakistan’s defense minister was “relying on social media as the source of information about what their own military has done.”

A Failure of Basic Verification

The episode centers on a single, stark problem: a senior government official, in a live global interview, could not produce a shred of official evidence for a military claim his own country was making. Asmongold finds this almost incomprehensible. “Like, wouldn’t you know better than social media?” he asks. “Like, you’re the defense minister.”
