Expedition 33: Asmongold's Game of the Year Contender

Asmongold spent over seven hours playing Expedition 33 on stream, and his verdict is emphatic: he gives it a 90% probability of winning Game of the Year. "This has been such a good game," he said repeatedly, calling it "the best game this year" and arguing it surpasses Metaphor: ReFantazio. The episode is not a structured review but a live playthrough punctuated by combat, exploration, and genuine emotional reactions to the story's twists.

The Combat System and Difficulty Curve

The game's turn-based combat operates on "expert" difficulty, which Asmongold insists is necessary for turn-based games to remain engaging. The system requires precise timing for parries and dodges during enemy attacks—a mechanic Asmongold openly struggles with. "I have very, very bad reaction time," he admitted. "Like anytime I have to use my brain is a bad time." This honesty about his own limitations becomes a running theme: he repeatedly fails parries, gets wiped by groups of enemies, and has to restart fights multiple times.
