On March 6, 2024, a 25-year-old man named Guy Edward Bartis detonated a bomb at an IVF clinic in Omaha, Nebraska. He killed only himself. The blast injured two other people and damaged the building, but the hundreds of embryos inside the clinic were unharmed. Bartis had posted a manifesto on Reddit explaining his motive: he was a "promortalist" who believed that bringing people into the world without their consent was immoral, and that life itself was a disease that needed to be sterilized from the planet.

The bomber's ideology

Bartis described his worldview in a recorded manifesto that he urged people to download before it was taken down. He wrote that the end goal was for "the truth, elite isn't to win" and that once it did, humanity could begin "the process of sterilizing a planet of the disease of life." He argued that life could only continue as long as people held "the delusional belief that it is not a zero sum game causing senseless torture and messes." He also called for a "war against pro-lifers," though the host notes that Bartis was not talking about people who oppose abortion—he was talking about people who want to be alive at all.
