Overwatch 2 has a 23% rating on Steam with roughly 35,000 concurrent players. Marvel Rivals, by contrast, sits at 79% with over 150,000 players on Steam alone—and that's just the slice of Overwatch's audience that uses Steam rather than Blizzard's own Battle.net launcher. The gap is so stark that Asmongold argues Blizzard is now "getting increasingly desperate," scrambling to reverse years of design decisions that, in his view, alienated the core player base.

The Shift from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2

The argument begins with a specific complaint: Blizzard added characters to Overwatch 2 that "aren't fuckable." This is not presented as a crude aside but as a symptom of a larger strategic error. Asmongold traces the problem back to 2016, when Blizzard removed a Tracer victory pose after complaints that it was "overly sexualized" and "problematic." The company "capitulated to those people," he says, and from there, the game's design philosophy shifted.
