The Burning Shadowlands Crusade is coming, and Asmongold and Nixxiom are reacting to a flurry of Blizzard announcements that have revitalized the World of Warcraft community. After a rough few months, the mood has shifted: the Shadowlands alpha has begun, classic Burning Crusade servers are on the table, and Blizzard is signaling a return to the class identity and spell depth that players loved in older versions of the game.

Shadowlands Alpha Opens with Bastion, New Tutorials, and Unpruning

The Shadowlands alpha has officially launched, and early access is limited to Blizzard employees, friends and family, content creators, and media. The first zone available for testing is Bastion, which Nixxiom admits is the least interesting announced zone for him personally, though he jokes about being a "Bastion main in Overwatch." The first dungeon available is the Necrotic Wake. As the alpha progresses, Blizzard plans to release more content, including the infinitely changing dungeon Torghast (the Tower of the Damned) and the remaining zones.

One of the most anticipated features is the new Alliance starting tutorial zone, a tutorial island where new players learn the basics—professions, spells, and mechanics—before choosing which expansion to level in. This replaces the current disjointed starting experience. The Horde equivalent will come later.
