On July 5, 2018, Scott Ferris discovered what he believed to be human remains in a smoldering burn pile on his family's 10-acre farm in Cherokee County, Georgia. His father, Gary Ferris—a successful commercial real estate lawyer known as Big Daddy—had been missing for two days. What began as a search for a missing patriarch quickly revealed evidence of murder, with family tensions over money and distrust pulling investigators into a cycle of accusations.

The Family and the Farm

Gary and Melody Ferris bought the property in 2013 as a retreat after raising four children: Chris (38, married with daughters), Scott (35, ex-military, single, managing the farm from above the barn), Emily (30, married with a daughter, living in Tennessee), and Amanda (29, engaged). Gary, 58 at death, was 6'4", nearly 300 pounds, a workaholic provider who financially supported his adult children—covering bills, airline tickets, and more for Chris and Emily, while Scott lived on-site. Melody managed the home. The family called their dynamic a "Ferris wheel" of blame, fueled by jealousy, finances, and betrayals.
